Dance From The Heart came into being as a collection
of multi-cultural events taking place in cities across the United States.
The organizers of the events are dancers that felt a need to help
the tsunami victims the best way they could. The hope was that our efforts
in expanding cultural awareness would result in greater understanding
of the monumental loss these countries experienced in all facets of
life.
Showcasing forms of dance and music from several cultures,
these events took place in early 2005 in the following cities: Tennessee,
Boston, DC, Houston, Dallas, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Reno and
Tallahassee. The proceeds from each event
were donated to different organizations - Oxfam America, Unicef, Care
and others, based on the choice of the sponsor.
Now, Houston has become the home of the National Headquarters, and the organization obtained tax exempt status under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code effective March 1, 2007.
